Our faces obviously didn't fit! - I HATE writing a poor review and generally don't but in this instance I was so annoyed I have...Arrived around 4pm on a Saturday and asked for a table for two, we were looked up and down by the host (who appeared to be the GM) and asked if we wanted food or just drinks. After replying just drinks for the time being he pointed to a table next to the front door. We asked if we could sit outside as we'd just walked by and saw lots of free tables to be told it was full outside. We assumed outside was reserved for people with dogs. However not 5 minutes later did a couple arrive and ask the same host for a table for 2 outside (they had no dog either) and they were politely taken to the beer garden. We were sat next to the entrance / exit so knew nobody had left. Another couple entered and the same again, taken to the garden for a table for 2! We ordered 2 pints of Birra Moretti which we waited 20 minutes for - the waiter approached with 2 pints - one was completely flat, the other wasn't a full pint and was at least an inch from the top of the glass. He dumped them on the table and walked away before we could say anything so I took both to the bar. Two staff at the bar so I explained the issue with the drinks. The chap told me it was the end of the barrel and proceeded to try and top them up, I explained to him they were not worth being topped up as no amount of topping up would help them they were that bad. He looked at his colleague whom agreed and said sorry, they were they end of the barrel pints and they would change them ! At £4.95 per pint you would not expect to be told you'd been served the dregs from the bottom of the barrel ! Replacement pints were quite nice and we were debating ordering some food so we ordered a second round of drinks and waited for them for 50minutes - we asked about the drinks after waiting 30 minutes to be told they were being pulled just then, another 20 minute wait ensued... as we'd ordered on the app and been charged for them we had no choice but to just sit and wait as they couldn't refund them apparently. In the waiting time we sat and watched the comings and goings.... an older couple arrived and asked for a table of 2, said host told them there was a 20 minute wait. They said ok and stood to the side - we could see a table for 2 empty across the bar - he made them wait almost 30 minutes before seating them at the empty table. A queue started forming outside and despite there being free tables, the host left people queuing, he did advise there was a 30 minute wait on food orders when he eventually seated people. For the amount of staff in the place there should not have been a wait on drinks but we waited 50 minutes for 2 pints of lager. Not impressed at all by the service or the host and the way he dealt with people and he should train his staff on what a decent pint looks like as we saw quite a few that were poor being taken out.

Thwaites Hotels 1st Bad Review ... Never again - Stayed here for a few days and wish we hadn't, from a cracked bathroom sink to mould in the shower to dog hairs on the bath mat and room floor that was the start. My partner asked for a medium rare steak and ended up with a medium raw steak to which they took her whole meal away and returned it without the sauce. There was a guy working front of house with a shirt tucked I at the front and flapping about at the back and all the time I'm thinking £205 a night for this( that's a joke). Went for breakfast the next morning and waited that long for a drink that I went to the shop next door and got a bottle of water, when the breakfast turned up I've never been served half a mushroom or half a black pudding as a result I decided to speak to the assistant manager who I showed the bedroom and the state of it,he then offered to give the room a good clean but that wasn't done properly and wasn't much better when we returned later in the day. The following morning I spoke to the assistant manager again and once again we were told that once again the room would be given another deep clean, 3 days and 3 attempts to clean it ,what a joke surely it should have been done properly the first time, as I've said £205 a night is disgusting and would definitely not recommend this hotel. No improvement since last year's visit - Real shame that this place serves such poor food as the setting is so nice and whoever owns the crown has spent so much money in increasing its capacity which has been done so well and in keeping with the area. Unfortunately though I would suspect down to 'bad management' they simply cannot fulfill the capacity available, we turned up last Saturday for lunch at half 12 just half an hour into service and thy were already over run and couldn't cope with orders which let's face it is beyond poor. The food is not of good standard I paid £8.50 for a roast beef sandwich with a couple of leaves on the side and a tea spoon of the worst coleslaw I've ever tasted, and as you can see from the photo it was more gristle and fat as apposed to roast beef. On op of this the mash potato served with my kids meals was inedible, seriously how hard is it to make mash??? I did complain to one of the staff who was wearing a waist coat shirt and pants as apposed to the other servers uniform, he may have been management but he wasn't apologetic or in fact interested to be honest. To sum up, your menu may have changed from last year's visit but you are still charging top price for very very poor food, (more fool me for giving a second chance) NEVER AGAIN.... SUCH A SHAME... PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER FOR THERE HAR EARNED MONEY.
Thwaites Hotels 3rd Bad Review ... Rude, unwelcoming and totally unprofessional - Upon arrival we stood at the door for ages whilst staff stood around talking to each other choosing to ignore us. We were finally shown to a table, when we asked if we could have a table closer to the river we were told told very rudely no. The waiter also didn’t inform us we had to order via an app nor how to use the QR code to do this. Other customers were also left to be ignored at the door causing some of them to complain to staff. Staff were overheard saying comments like ‘I don’t give a f@ck, what are they going to do about it’. When one customer asked a waitress to check on his order as it hadn’t arrived she tutted and as she walked away from him said ‘Oh god’ whilst sighing. The food was basis and mediocre. Shame as the setting is great and the pub well presented. We decided they’d had enough of our money and left. We won’t be returning.
